Interview with Jihan

How long have you been in Chengdu/China and how long do you plan to stay?

I have been in China for six months now. Actually , my plan was one year , but I really want to stay longer because there are still more places to visit in China and one year is not enough .

Why did you choose to come to Chengdu/Sichuan and what do you like most about this part of China?

Sichuan province is one of the most beautiful and rich areas naturally and culturally. Also China is one the safest  countries in the world ,also Chengdu ‘s living cost is much  cheaper than other  big cities in China .I can’t carry on without mentioning  the kindness and the smile faces of its people accompany me everywhere. All in all , I haven’t encountered any type of danger , racism or even inappropriateness from people here so I am super happy .

Where do you teach/have been teaching and what age groups? What are the good and bad sides of that age group?

I teach in a vocational school in Wenjiang district , age groups  16, 17 and 18 years old along with some kindergarten classes; 7,8, 9 years. It is such a great experience that I have to deal with two different age groups and fulfill the goals I have set earlier and be adaptable. My happiest moment was when most of them got very good grades in their English test, practicing every single thing I taught which is a sign that I am on the right track.

What has been the most rewarding part of this experience and what will you do next?

Being able to be understood is one of the rewarding things even though most of them are not really good with English , also the fact of  being open to new people’s life style and thoughts  is one bonus I have gained . Last but not least, being more independent when It comes to my professional and personal life .

Would you recommend coming to live and teach in Chengdu?

As I have revealed earlier it is one of the most amazing experiences that one can enjoy while improving their career, so I definitely would like to recommend this fascinating experience to everyone that has the chance to do so.
