Intro to Mianyang

One of our Teachers, Graeme, wrote the below about Mianyang:

Mianyang is Sichuan’s second largest city, 50 minutes by bullet train from the largest, Chengdu. Although considered a
small city by Chinese standards, it has a population of over 5 million. The wide tree-shaded sidewalks, the bicycle paths,
and public transport system make getting around downtown a breeze. The average meal at a local restaurant will set
you back less than the equivalent of 1.50 USD and if you are not into the local food, Western fare including KFC and
Starbucks is available. Also, Wal-Mart and other large supermarkets supply pretty much anything you’ll need if you want
to cook yourself. Besides the large park in the center of town, where you can sip green tea in the shade of tall trees and
the long walkway along the river, which passes beer gardens and outdoor restaurants that set up in the summer
months, there are a number of worthwhile scenic spots including Fu Le Shan Park and Xianhai Lake. The expat
population in Mianyang is not large, but the locals are tactful, respectful and very friendly. If you do feel the need to
hang out with native speakers of English, there are a couple of bars, Flags and Mocha, frequented by expats.
